Firefighters respond to small fire at Chesapeake supermarket

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Firefighters responded to a fire at the Farm Fresh supermarket at 1620 Cedar Road.

It happened Thursday around 8:15 a.m.

When crews arrived, they found a small fire in a hot food case. The fire was contained to the hot food case and no sprinklers were activated.

Firefighters quickly put the fire out in 15 minutes.

The building was evacuated due to smoke throughout the store.

Norfolk Fire Department responded with a large fan to remove the smoke from the open space. Units cleared the scene at 8:31 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
