Man barricaded inside Portsmouth home surrenders peacefully

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - A barricade situation in Portsmouth ended peacefully after several hours on Monday morning.

Police say the emergency call came in at 6:36 a.m. regarding someone contemplating suicide at a home on McLean Street.

Portsmouth Police officers and SWAT members responded to the scene and spent several hours trying to coax a man out of a home.

Neighbors say the situation was chaotic and out of the ordinary for their community.

The man surrendered peacefully to police just before 12 p.m. It is still unknown if he faces any charges.

People are being asked to avoid the area while the situation is ongoing.
