Two arrested on outstanding warrants in Newport News domestic situation

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Two people have been arrested on outstanding warrants in a domestic situation in the 500 block of Bellwood Road Wednesday afternoon.

Travis Smith, 35

Officers with the Newport News Police Department responded to a call for a domestic situation at 11:39 a.m. The call came from an adult female who told them her female family member was being held against her will by an adult male armed with a firearm inside the residence.

Najalah Desiree Scott, 33

The Newport News Tactical Team was activated at 2:35 p.m. The adult male, identified as Travis Smith, 35, of Yorktown, and female, identified as Najalah Desiree Scott, 33, of Newport News, surrendered and were taken into custody at the residence. Scott denied being held against her will.

After the suspects were detained and officers checked the residence, a search warrant for the residence was obtained and served. Officers located a firearm during the search.

Both Smith and Scott were charged with one count each of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. At the time of her arrest, Scott was wanted in Newport News for failure to appear regarding a felony offense and for a probation violation. It was also discovered that Scott had a warrant out of York County and Hampton , while Smith had warrants out of York County and Norfolk.
