Two dead after Navy training jet crashes in Tennessee

MERIDIAN, Miss. – Training Air Wing ONE has confirmed the T-45 belonging to Training Squadron Seven crashed in east Tennessee, the U.S. Navy announced Monday.

On Sunday, the Navy said the T-45C Goshawk, based at Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi had been out training but failed to return to the air station.

At 6 p.m. Sunday, Naval Air Station Meridian was made aware of reports that a jet had crashed near Tellico Plains, Tennessee, in the Cherokee National Forest.

The two pilots aboard the aircraft, an instructor and a student, did not survive.

Training Air Wing ONE is one of five training wings that belong to CNATRA.

Officials are working to determine the cause of the mishap.
