NORFOLK, Va. - It’s important to give back, but it's also important to make sure the organization you give your money to is legitimate.

This is the second time this week Koni Andrews has grabbed lunch at Jack Browns.

"I saw their post on Facebook about them donating their profits to Hurricane Harvey then I thought I would invite my friend Leslie, and it was another good excuse to support a good cause," Andrews said.

In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane, Harvey Jack Browns beer and burger joint is giving away 100% of its profits to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The fundraiser started on Monday and will last through the end of the week on Sunday.

"It’s a tragedy what happened and we have bosses that are willing to not worry about taking a profit of any sort this whole week and give it back to people who actually need it," Nukri Mamistvalov said.

If you don't have time for lunch, you can write a check to the local Red Cross.

Executive Director Marissa Nihill says be careful who you donate to. Scammer use disasters to set up fake charities where your money lands directly in the scammers' pocket.

"We ask them to contact us if they are not sure and check out charity navigator which is a resource to make sure other organizations are legitimate," Nihill said.

Whether you decide to eat a burger or cut a check, be sure to do your research that way the money goes to those in need.
