VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - During Hurricane Matthew a creek in Virginia Beach flooded all the way up to South Plaza Trail. Now just months later families who are still recovering prepare again for flooding.

"For myself I am just making sure that my belongings on my first floor are ready to go if water starts creeping into the front yard we can do that. We can start bringing things upstairs. I know some neighbors have already started doing that they are shell-shocked from Hurricane Matthew," Wasserberg said.

Virginia Wasserberg lives with her husband and two young kids in the Windsor Woods neighborhood of Virginia Beach, an area that was hit hard by hurricane Matthew.

"Houses all around this neighborhood were flooded including my own. It was just really bad we had to kayak our kids out of the house," Wasserberg said.

Dominion energy communication manager Bonita Billingsley Harris says they are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

“Matthew did come on a little stronger than everyone expected and that did end up hitting us harder than expected and that was a big storm so same for this one we are expecting it to have a significant impact,” Bonita Billingsley Harris said

She says originally the plan was to send crews to help in Texas. Instead all crews stayed local and Dominion called in extra crews.  She says still customers should be ready for power outages.

“Have an emergency kit ready with batteries, bottled water, other essentials, cash, flash lights of course, “ Billingsley Harris said.

Dominion officials say this is the perfect time to remember to plug your phone in and keep it charged that way if we do experience a power outage you will be able to use your phone.
