NORFOLK, Va. - No longer is it a hassle for you to think about who's going to help move your things. Instead, you can request someone to do it all for you from the palm of your hand.

"We're trying to change the transportation industry, keep it up to date with technology and make it on demand," said Trucket app CEO Chris Cooke.

Similar to Uber, Trucket is giving people fast and affordable access to a truck, SUV or van.

The app launched in Hampton Roads on June 5. Local entrepreneurs introduced it to Old Dominion University for students and parents to use too.

"We know the college industry has moves year in and year out constantly and we want to be known on the college campuses," Cooke said. "However businesses and home users sitting at home--you need something picked up you don't want to go to the store or you're at the store and it can't fit in your car."

Trucket can be used by first downloading the app on your phone, then request which vehicle type you need to haul your belongings and set your planned destination. The app knows your location so your driver knows where to meet you. Then the driver will help load your things, drive to your destination and will help you unload, too. Once your trip is completed, your payment can be made by credit card on the app.

Parent Natalie Conway from Richmond was helping move her son into an ODU dorm Friday afternoon. Conway mentioned they rented a truck. News 3 later told her about Trucket and was all for it.

"You can bring all of his materials all of his things down to the dorm and then we can just leisurely come down maybe later in the evening maybe sometime tomorrow," Conway said.

To make things even more convenient an appointment can be made with a driver that best fits your time.

Trucket can be downloaded on any smartphone. The app is expanding its services beyond Hampton Roads and across the nation in the near future.
