Chesapeake man charged with animal cruelty for allegedly beating two dogs to death

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – A Chesapeake man was in court Wednesday morning to face animal cruelty charges.

Michael Ott, 29, is accused of beating two dogs and has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

According to Chesapeake Police, both dogs died as a result of the beating.

Court documents obtained by News 3 showed that a Yorkie, named Gizmo, suffered from severe trauma all over his body.

The second dog, an Alaska Malamute named "Ghost", had severe trauma to mainly his head.

Investigators were called to the 100 block of Fairwind Drive Tuesday evening where they arrested Ott.

Cort records show the two beatings allegedly happened about a week apart.

The first incident was on August 10th.

Police tell News 3, further charges are pending as they investigate cruelty regarding a third dog named Benjie, another Yorkie.

U.S. Navy officials confirmed Ott is a Sailor stationed on the USS Carl Vinson out of San Diego. He does have a Chesapeake address but has no current Navy connection to any local base.

Ott is currently being held in the Chesapeake City jail.
