As of Monday night, Gert is now officially the second hurricane of the 2017 season.

Tropical Storm Gert became better organized over the western Atlantic. Gert is forecast to stay east of the United States. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 75 mph, with higher gusts. Hurricane Gert is moving toward the north at 8 mph. A turn toward the northeast with an increase in forward speed is expected late Tuesday or Tuesday night.

Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles.

Gert will likely give us some rough surf as it moves north-northeast.
