Pier restrictions lifted at Naval Station Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. - Restrictions for the piers have Naval Station Norfolk were lifted Monday night.

Monday morning all piers at Naval Station Norfolk were closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. At approximately 9 a.m. Navy waterfront watchstanders detected a possible diver in the restricted waters.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., the restrictions had been lifted for all piers except Pier 7.

NCIS, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, and Naval Station Norfolk Security and Fire and Emergency Response were all on the scene.

All ships were in security alert. Base personnel are asked to stay clear of the waterfront area.

A Navy official told News 3 the base on a whole was not on lockdown and traffic on-and-off the base was flowing as normal.

Around 8:30 p.m. Monday evening, the investigation came to a close as no diver was found and all ships were determined to be clear. The base has resumed normal operations.
