Virginia State Police identify man killed in Sunday motorcycle crash on I-64

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. – A motorcyclist was killed Sunday in a crash involving several other vehicles on I-64 in James City County.

According to Virginia State Police, two motorcycles were traveling eastbound on I-64 behind a tractor trailer around 7 p.m.

Both motorcycles attempted to change lanes while traffic was coming to a stop.

The driver of one of the motorcycles, 54-year-old Wesley D. Sharpe, hit the back of a Chevrolet Suburban, causing the other motorcycle to then hit Sharpe’s motorcycle.

Sharpe subsequently fell off his motorcycle and was then hit by a tractor trailer.

Sharpe, a resident of Newport News, died as a result of his injuries.

All eastbound lanes near mile marker 246 were closed while troopers were on scene.

No word on the cause or identity of the victim.
