Motorcyclist killed in Portsmouth crash

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash near High Street and Jamestown Avenue Thursday morning.

Portsmouth Police say calls reporting the crash were received at 7:57 a.m.

The crash shut down High Street for several hours.

Officers found that a silver SUV and a motorcycle had collided.

The operator of the motorcycle was unresponsive and was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics.

The motorcyclist has been identified by police as 28-year-old Matthew L. Williams of Portsmouth.

According to investigators, the victim was traveling westbound on High Street and the driver of the silver SUV was traveling southbound on Jamestown Avenue when the accident happened.

The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene.
