PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Three teens were charged for a carjacking that happened over the weekend in Portsmouth.

Police said they arrested two 14-year-old boys and a 17-year-old and charged them with grand larceny.

One of the 14-year-olds was charged with carjacking and aggravated malicious wounding.

The incident happened Sunday night just before 8 p.m. outside the Goodwill store on High Street.

William Britt said he is friends with the 60-year-old victim who has worked at the Goodwill for years. He said the grandmother has serious injuries to her head and has been in the hospital since the situation happened.

"She is about one of the sweetest people you'll run into," said Britt.

Police said she is listed in critical condition.

A suspect entered the victim’s car as she was talking to someone and the victim was knocked to the ground when the vehicle began to move, police said.

The fall caused a serious head injury and the suspect drove off in the car.

"She's an extremely bad shape. She was in a coma. I know these medical bills going to cost an arm and a leg. I guarantee she's going to be out of work for a while," said Britt, "It angers me to no extreme."

Later that night, police said they were patrolling the area and found the stolen car with two of the teens inside.

The car and suspects were found in the 1900 block of Deep Creek Blvd.

One teen ran from police and another one was taken into custody immediately.

The suspect who ran was tracked down a little bit later, police said.

The teens were taken to the Chesapeake Juvenile Services.

The suspects' names and mug shots are not being released due to their ages.

"I think people need to be held accountable and I think they should be tried as adults not juveniles," said Britt, "I hope to God and I pray to God that she does survive the situation but if she does she is going to need help financially."
