After 18 seasons, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will retire following the 2017 NASCAR season, Hendrick Motorsports announced Tuesday.

Since his NASCAR career began in 1999, Earnhardt has won 26 times in 603 starts.

He returned to competition this year after a concussion sidelined him for half of the 2016 season.
