Virginia State Police respond to fatal crash in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Troopers are investigating a single vehicle crash on Interstate 264.

The crash happened Tuesday at approximately 9:14 a.m., at Greenwood Drive.

State Police said after an initial investigation it appears the driver of a Chevrolet truck was traveling eastbound on I-264 when he lost control and ran off the roadway.

The driver then struck a light pole which caused the vehicle to roll over several times, landing in a ditch.

State Police have identified the driver as 46-year-old James Scott Jones. They said he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and died at the scene.
