VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – More than 70 fire and rescue trucks are on display at the Virginia Beach Convention Center Friday.
Fire officials say the Virginia Fire Rescue Conference showcases trucks featuring the newest technology being used at fire departments across the state.
“Technology is ever changing for the fire service, so for the fire chief and the conference attendees here we wanna learn about the various technologies and changes so we can stay on the cutting edge and provide quality service to our citizens," Pat Dent, the Williamsburg Fire Chief and President of the Virginia Fire Chiefs Association, said.
For the Virginia Beach Fire Department, they presented their newest brush truck, fire engine, and ladder truck.
“The ladder one it is aluminum," fire chief David Hutcheson said. "The bucket is not square like you see on the older ladders – what that does for us is if we go to make a rescue – we put firefighters on a roof – it doesn’t have to be square to the building for them to have a safe access.”
The chief says the ladder truck has not hit the streets yet.
The VBFD is also looking to build a drone that will help with asses a fire from an aerial view.
