NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Police are investigating a shooting that happened in the 13700 block of Warwick Boulevard.

The call came in on Monday at 3:09 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound on the ground.

According to witnesses, the teen was shot then carried across Warwick Blvd. as people tried to save his life.

David Purdie was working at Tread Quarters nearby and heard gunfire. He said the scene was chaotic.

"It was like a bee swarm, you got kids running this way and that way," he said.

Authorities say the 16-year-old was shot in the upper torso. His injuries are potentially life threatening.

"I think it's a tragedy that something like this happens so close to my home. I think the kids need to value their life more than they do," said Kenneth Moon, who lives nearby. He says he is disturbed by the violence.

Police have not released any suspect information or a motive for the shooting.
