Greensboro officer shot during traffic stop

greensboroGREENSBORO, N.C. – A Greensboro police officer has been shot on Friday while conducting a traffic stop.

WGHP reports the officer was shot around 4:30 p.m., citing Greensboro Police.

The officer is receiving treatment at a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Police said the officer attempted a routine traffic stop of a red vehicle.

The vehicle pulled over and at least one of the occupants attempted to flee on foot, police said. One of the officers then chased the suspect and a “very violent encounter” happened about 200-300 yards away from the car.

Then there was an exchange of gunfire between the officer and one of the occupants of the red vehicle,police told WGHP.

Two people were in the vehicle and both are in custody at this time. One of the suspects was shot and there is no information on that persons’ condition at this time.

Police said they are not looking for any other suspects.
