PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Police are investigating a fatal shooting and car crash in the 200 block of Truxton Avenue Sunday night.

Officers were called to the area just after 8:30 p.m.

When police arrived they found one man dead and another injured inside a crashed car.

On Monday police identified the victim as 18-year-old Amir Dermoumi.

Police told News 3's Rachael Cardin that Dermoumi was a recent graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and was enrolled at Regent University.

Police said Dermoumi died from a gunshot wound to the upper body. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with crash related injuries.

Police believe the two were in the car when an unknown suspect shot at them, causing the driver to crash the vehicle.

The car came to rest in the front yard of Calvin Wilson who told News 3 two of his vehicles were totaled because of the collision. News 3 was the only station to speak to Wilson after the wreck and he gave his account of the gunshots and loud smash heard outside his window.

Other residents said the car was not owned by any of their neighbors and it was traveling very fast down their street. They said the area is often quiet.

On Thursday police said they arrested a 17-year-old male from Portsmouth in connection with this incident. The teen is charged with 1st Degree Murder and Use of  a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.
