YORK Co., Va. – Two people were seriously injured while doing work from a barge on the York River around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The York County Department of Fire and Life Safety said the incident happened near the Dominion Power Generation Station/Plains petroleum terminal.

When the Department of Fire and Life Safety was first notified, one patient was already being transferred to land on a private vessel and the other patient was still on the barge.

The first patient had been brought to Wormley Creek Marina and fire and rescue personnel began treatment.

Crews then transported the person to the hospital while additional fire and rescue personnel responded to the remaining patient on the barge.

That patient was then brought on shore by the department’s vessel and York County medics transported the person to the hospital.

The condition of both patients was considered serious, the department said.

Specific details/cause of the incident have not been released at this time.

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission is investigating the incident and the department believes Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is also investigating.
