CHESAPEAKE, Va. – The Deep Creek Bridge in Chesapeake will close to traffic in 15-minute intervals on Wednesday, December 14 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. in order for repairs to be made, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Contractors will replace three sections of wooden bridge railings that have been damaged by vehicles.

The work requires contractors to work both above the bridge and from a boat below the bridge, and requires daylight for safety reasons.

It is expected to make a minimal impact on traffic, however, motorists are advised to take alternate routes if possible.

Vehicles traveling south on George Washington Highway in Deep Creek should take I-64 West to Dominion Boulevard/Veteran’s Bridge and then South on Moses Grandy Trail back to George Washington Highway.  Vehicles traveling south on Cedar Road/Moses Grandy Trail or north on George Washington Highway and need to cross the Deep Creek Bridge should take Dominion Boulevard/Veteran’s Bridge to I-64 East to George Washington Highway.

In the case of unfavorable weather conditions, contractors will make the repair Thursday, Dec. 15.
