Verbal altercation leads to shooting in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Police say a verbal altercation lead to a man being shot and taken to the hospital.

On Sunday around 2 a.m., police responded to a call about a shooting in the 11000 block of Jefferson Avenue.

When police arrived, they found a 21-year-old man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

According to police, the verbal altercation started between two men, and spiraled into one of them being shot.

Police are unsure if the two men knew each other before the incident.
