Industrial storage building catches fire in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Firefighters responded to an industrial storage building fire in the Oyster Point area on Newport News early Saturday morning.

Around 1 a.m., crews were dispatched for a brush fire near Nettles Drive, which is located across the railroad tracks from Bell King Road.

While they were on their way to the scene, dispatch received another call for a structure fire on  Bell King Road.

When crews arrived, they saw a storage building was on fire.

Due to the volume of the fire, crews were only able to battle the fire using exterior firefighting tactics.

The fire was under control around 1:30 a.m.

The building suffered heavy fire damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were no reported injuries.
