VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library Art Gallery is calling on local artists to submit art for its monthly exhibitions from March 2017 through February 18.

The contest is open to individual artists or art groups.

Each applicant will be able to display his or her artwork for one month at the library art gallery. Winners will be chosen by a jury.

To be eligible, the artwork must be:

  • Two-dimensional wall art (painting, photography, collage, etc.)
  • Framed (or photos on metal) and ready for hanging
  • Original artwork created solely by the applicant-artist
  • Suitable for display in a public library
  • Of sufficient number to fill the gallery space adequately

Applicants must submit a portfolio, including a brief letter describing the art work and their art experience, with an email and phone number.  The portfolio must also have eight or more sample digital images (email attachments preferred).  Include the framed size or, if unframed, image size of each artwork in inches (H x W).  Links to additional art images (website, Instagram, etc.) may also be included, but are not required.

Portfolios should be emailed to volunteer art gallery coordinator, Robert C. Kennedy at RKennedy@VBgov.com. The deadline to turn in portfolios is midnight on Sunday, December 11. Applicants will receive an email acknowledgement of receipt of portfolios.

The library art committee will meet in late December 2016 or early January 2017. Applicants will be notified of results after the selection process is completed.
