Norfolk career criminal sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for firearm possession

NORFOLK, Va. – A career criminal was sentenced Monday to just under 20 years in prison for possession of a firearm.

Norman Baynard, Jr., of Norfolk pleaded guilty on May 11.

According to court documents Norfolk Police conducted a series of undercover purchases of heroin from Baynard.

On the last scheduled controlled purchase officers attempted to arrest Baynard and it resulted in a high-speed chase.

During the chase Barynard drove through a number of red-lights and almost hit a small child.

After throwing a loaded handgun and drugs out of the car window, Baynard was eventually pulled over and was arrested.

Baynard’s criminal record consists of 42 convictions for various crimes, including drug dealing, voluntary manslaughter, arson, assaults, and various firearm convictions.
