Squadron of the Month: VFA-106 Gladiators

NAS OCEANA - News 3 is honored to host VFA-106 Gladiators as our November Squadron of the Month!

The Gladiators are a Super Hornet Fleet Replacement Squadron based out of Naval Air Station Oceana.

VFA-106 is the largest squadron on the base, with almost 1,200 sailors maintaining and flying almost 120 jets.

As the East Coast Replacement Squadron, the Gladiator's mission is to train Navy and Marine replacement pilots and Weapon Systems Officers (WSO's) to support fleet commitments. Every six weeks, a new class of newly winged Navy and Marine pilots begin the 9-month training course at Oceana.

Instructor pilots train new Navy and Marine pilots to replace fleets.

The squadron flies F/A-18's of various models.
