YORK COUNTY, Va. – York County fire officials and the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office are investigating a suspicious fire that occurred early Friday at the Ramada Inn – Williamsburg, located at 500 Merrimac Trail.

Crews from York County Fire and Life Safety were called to the fire, along with mutual aid units from the Williamsburg and James City County fire departments, at approximately 4:25 a.m.

Fire was initially found in a conference room and then subsequently discovered in two other rooms.

The hotel’s fire sprinkler system activated and prevented further spread of the fire. The fire departments were able to quickly extinguish the remaining fire.

Fire damage was limited to the three rooms but smoke conditions spread to adjacent areas of the hotel.

An investigation into what caused the fire is still underway, but it is being considered suspicious in nature.
