Moped crashes into SUV, sideswipes HRT bus in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. – A moped rider was seriously injured after crashing into a Ford SUV and sideswiping the front of an HRT bus.

Police responded to the intersection of Tidewater Drive and Willow Wood Drive around 9:05 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police, a moped was traveling in the right northbound lane of Tidewater Drive and struck a Ford Expedition while attempting to change lanes. After the moped hit the Ford, the moped swiped the front of the HRT bus.

The moped rider, a 58-year-old man, was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to be okay.

The woman driving the Ford was not hurt. Her vehicle received minor damages.

The bus driver and passengers were not injured.

No charges have been filed.
