Virginia State Police investigating shooting on I-64 in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating a shooting that happened on I-64 early Sunday morning.

According to police, it happened around 1 a.m. on I-64 eastbound at Pine Chapel Road.

Around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Troopers were called to 42nd Street in Newport News, where the shooting victim’s vehicle had stopped.

The vehicle, a 2005 Lexus, was traveling on I-64 eastbound when a dark colored vehicle pulled up to the driver’s side and fired shots at the Lexus.

Police say the Lexus was shot multiple times.

The driver of the Lexus and two passengers were taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. One passenger had life threatening injuries.

A fourth passenger in the car was not injured.
