Eight new officers graduate from Newport News Police Training Academy

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Eight officers graduated from the Newport News Police Training Academy on Wednesday.

The ceremony comes after almost six months of training in and out of the classroom.

The graduates were joined by their families, friends and members of the Newport News Police Department at a ceremony at the Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center.

The graduates were addressed by Lieutenant General Herbert R. McMaster and sworn in by Newport News General District Court Judge Christopher R. Papile.

Graduating officers will be assigned to field training officers for additional training before going to independent control.
