Report compares best and worst places for veterans to live

A new report is taking a look at the best and worst places for veterans to live.

The personal finance website WalletHub compared the 100 most populated cities across the country.  They looked at things like the number of military skill-related jobs, housing affordability and availability of VA health facilities.

Here are the top five cities in their report:

  • 1. Scottsdale, AZ
  • 2. Laredo, TX
  • 3. Irvine, CA
  • 4. Plano, TX
  • 5. Austin, TX

Out of the 100 cities compared, here are the the five listed at the bottom.

  • 96.  Boston, MA
  • 97. Memphis, TN
  • 98. Cleveland, OH
  • 99. Newark, NJ
  • 100. Detroit, MI

Here’s a look at where some Hampton Roads cities came in on the list.

  • 12. Chesapeake
  • 20. Virginia Beach
  • 26. Norfolk

According to WalletHub’s report, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach tied for the highest number of veterans.

Virginia Beach was listed as the city with the fewest homeless veterans per veteran population while Chesapeake was third when it comes to cities with the lowest percent of veterans in poverty.
