Hacksaw Ridge is the story of Desmond Doss, a soldier in World War 2 who, despite being a conscientious objector, saved 75 men and was awarded the Medal of Honor.

The movie is based on the real story of Desmond Doss, a Lynchburg, Virginia native. It is beautifully written, cast and acted, with special praise going to actor Andrew Garfield in the lead role as Doss.

Hacksaw Ridge is Mel Gibson's first foray into directing since 2006. Love him or hate him for what he's done since then, he's made magic with this one. There were people standing and clapping at the end of the film when I saw it at Cinema Cafe.

This is a war movie, the likes of which we haven't seen since maybe Saving Private Ryan. I give it 4 out of 5 Blaines.
