Virginia Beach teen arrested after eluding police in stolen car

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. - A 17 year-old from Virginia Beach was taken into custody on multiple charges after leading a New Kent County Sheriff's deputy on a pursuit in a stolen car, according to the New Kent County Sheriff's Office.

Around 12:30 a.m., the teenager was speeding on I-64 eastbound in New Kent County when he was spotted by a deputy.

The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the teen continued driving, exiting the interstate at West Point.

The pursuit continued at a high rate of speed eastbound on Route 33, eventually making a U-turn and headed back westbound on Route 33 before turning onto Route 249, then onto Pamunkey Church Road, then onto Langley Pines Road. That is where the he drove into a wooded area, then back onto Route 249 and to Route 30.

During the chase, the teen drove towards a deputy who was on foot nearly hitting him.

The teen continued along several additional roads and across private property causing damage.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle was stopped inside the entrance to Stonehouse.

No one was injured during the chase, however, three New Kent County Sheriff's Office vehicles were damaged.

The vehicle the teen was driving had been reported stolen out of Powhatan County, in the same area where another vehicle that was reported stolen from Virginia Beach had been abandoned.

The teen has been charged with Attempted Capital Murder of a law enforcement officer, Felony Eluding, Felony destruction of property, Grand Larceny Auto, Reckless Driving, Possession of stolen property, Failing to obey traffic signals, Failure to wear a seat belt and trespassing.

He was taken into custody and transported to a detention facility.
