Patti F. Kersey (R), running for Chowan County Board of Commissioners District 2

1. Why are you running for office?

I’m a candidate because I’m confident that our Commissioners/local government can improve on performance and outcomes – outcomes that will translate into meaningful results for all residents of Chowan County

2. Why should people vote for you?

I have a record of service and accomplishment, and I’m asking for the “people’s” trust with their vote so that I can continue to serve and make a difference in our community.

3. What’s your favorite thing about the area you want to represent?

Chowan County has unique strengths and assets – beautiful natural resources, a rich history tied to the birth of our nation, and the wonderful waterfront town of Edenton.

4. What is the biggest problem your area is facing, how will you fix it?

Chowan County, similar to most of our neighbors in northeastern NC, has unique economic challenges. We are not in close proximity to an urban area nor to an interstate highway. Likewise, we do not have a readily available skilled workforce. However, not all businesses want to relocate to an urban area, and so we must capitalize on our strengths and assets, previously mentioned. For example, we have a regional airport with a 6,000 ft. runway, which can accommodate cargo similar to the Norfolk and Raleigh airports. There are opportunities to recruit businesses such as sheet metal and avionics repair and flight simulator operations.

5. Describe Donald Trump in max 3 words?

Offering Something Different

6. Describe Hillary Clinton in max 3 words?

Offering The Same

7. What do you do for a living? Why do you do it?

I am a retired Air Force officer and since relocating here in 2002, have served my community on local Advisory Boards (County Planning and Election), and Outreach (Food Pantry and Habitat for Humanity). God has blessed my family, and me and I believe in giving back by way of service to my community.

8. You’re going to be marooned on a tropical island for a week, you can only bring 1 thing – what is it?

Water

9. What do you think of Colin Kaepernick?

Having served a career in the military, travelling and living worldwide, I have a deep appreciation for the freedoms that we are so fortunate to have in our country. Service men and women have died to defend these freedoms. Colin Kaepernick has the right and thankfully the freedom to express his First Amendment right to protest. I do personally believe, however, that protesting during the playing of National Anthem is inconsiderate and ‘tone deaf’ to those who sacrificed their lives to give him his personal freedoms.

10. Would you vote to fund light rail expansion in your area?

Depends on all of the ‘funding’ details.

11. Will you respect the outcome of the election?

Yes, of course

12. Favorite TV Show?

I don’t watch much TV; I would rather read a book.
