Sean Haugh (L) – Candidate for US Senate, North Carolina

Sean Haugh (L), running for U.S. Senate in North Carolina

1. Why are you running for office?

I want to stop all war and stop spending more money than we have. I am running because neither Democrats nor Republicans will talk about the costs of our perpetual war and unsustainable debt. Someone needs to speak up for peace and prosperity, and I saw a unique opportunity to be that person as a candidate for US Senate.

2. Why should people vote for you?

The more people who vote for me and other Libertarian candidates this election, that sends a louder message to the politicians that they have to become more peaceful and more Libertarian in order to try to win those voters back.

3. What’s your favorite thing about the area you want to represent?

Oh golly, everything. Just to pick one, I’ve been blessed with opportunities to travel all over the United States and a few other places in this world and must say North Carolina is the most beautiful patch of land I’ve ever witnessed. I feel very fortunate to live here.

4. What is the biggest problem your area is facing, how will you fix it?

I can only narrow this down to two. One is that government consumes such a vast portion of our wealth. The federal government alone accounts for about 22.5% of the entire Gross Domestic Product. We must vastly reduce the size and scope of government so people can keep all the money they earn.
The other is that at every level of society, from neighbors arguing over parking spaces to a President who claims the authority to kill anyone he wants to anywhere in the world just on his say-so, we increasingly resort to violence as a first response to political and social problems. As a Senator I would want to set a good example from the top, and fight for eliminate every example of killing as government policy.

5. Describe Donald Trump in max 3 words?

Divisive, not unifying.

6. Describe Hillary Clinton in max 3 words?

War and corporatism.

7. What do you do for a living? Why do you do it?

I am a pizza delivery driver. Like most “retired” people, I had to do a little something to stay above water. Turns out this is my favorite job ever. Everybody loves the pizza guy. I bring joy and relief to many families every night. I love the people I work with and driving around my beautiful city. And I get to pet a lot of friendly dogs.

8. You’re going to be marooned on a tropical island for a week, you can only bring 1 thing – what is it?

A long book about how to forage on a tropical island.

9. What do you think of Colin Kaepernick?

Colin Kaepernick is a great American. His protest and words explaining what’s behind it are incredibly thoughtful. We would do well to listen to him.

10. Would you vote to fund light rail expansion in your area?

No. It’s a massive boondoogle. It’s not viable if someone has to drive to the train station for a trip that takes three times as long as just driving the whole way.

11. Will you respect the outcome of the election?

Of course! I’ve worked closely with many county and state elections officials over several years and have every confidence in them.

12. Favorite TV Show?

Babylon 5. Not just a compelling story well-told, it has a lot of very smart things to say on many spiritual and philosophical topics.
