NORFOLK, Va. - A woman living in Buckingham Apartments said she has developed a bad cough from all the mold in her apartment.

"It's a health concern now," said I'mani Myers, who used to love her Ghent apartment. She said now she can only live in her living room on the couch because the smell of mold has taken over her bedroom.  She only goes in if absolutely necessary.

Myers said her cough is so bad, she will wake up in the middle of the night from a coughing attack. She recently discovered the mold in her apartment and believes it is from all the rain during Hurricane Matthew. Myers said she's reached out to her landlord, but said they told her it would be a first come, first serve basis.

Buckingham Apartments is managed by Cavalier Land, Inc. The President has reached out to News 3 and asked to provide Myers with his direct contact information so he can speak with her personally. The President said, unfortunately buildings leak when there are 10 inches of wind-driven rain. He said they are dealing with the problems as methodically and promptly as possible.

It's been more than two weeks since Hurricane Matthew and Myers said her health is her top concern.

"I've never had a cough like this," said Myers.

Myers said the president of Cavalier Land, Inc. told her a contractor will be out Thursday along with the leasing agent to look at the mold in Myers' apartment.
