YORKTOWN, Va. – Yorktown Day 2016 marks the 235th anniversary of the historic victory leading to the end of the Revolutionary War.

The Colonial Army troops led by George Washington and the French Army troops led by Comte de Rochambeau had a decisive victory over the British Army, ultimately leading to the British government negotiating and ending the war.

The Battle at Yorktown was the final major land battle of the American Revolutionary War.

And to celebrate the towns history, many celebrations and ceremonies will be happening all day long.

The biggest event is the Yorktown Day parade. Running the length of Main Street, representatives from all military branches and all types of historic performers will parade through the street to honor the 235th anniversary.

The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. with a wreath laying ceremony at the Yorktown Victory Monument to follow.
