First Warning Forecast: Warming up, then cooling down

A swing in temperatures is on the way…A mostly dry night in store with lows near 60.

Flood warnings remain for most of the Southside and Northeastern North Carolina through Thursday evening. River Flood Warnings remain for most of our inland rivers. Water is at minor flooding levels today and continues to slowly fall. Tidal flooding will become a focus again on Saturday as northerly winds crank up again.

Strong high pressure will build southward through Thursday. Temperatures on Thursday will be warmer with highs in the mid-70s. A weak cold front will move through the region Thursday night. This is a very dry front. Not a lot of moisture associated with it, so rain chances will be very low. The front however, will bring a temperature change. Temperatures will drop into the mid-60s on Friday, and then rebound to more seasonal temperatures by Monday.

Tonight: Partly to mostly clear skies. Some patchy fog is possible. Lows near 60. Winds: NE/N 5-10

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy. Some patchy am fog possible. Slight chance for an isolated shower (20%). Highs in the mid 70s. Winds: N/NW 5-10

Tropical Update

Nicole is now an extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane. Hurricane Nicole is heading for Bermuda. Nicole is about 180 miles SSW of Bermuda and moving NNE at 12 mph. An increase in forward speed is expected Thursday, followed by a turn toward the northwest. An increase in forward speed is expected by Thursday night. On this current track, the center of Nicole will pass over or near Bermuda on Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph with higher gusts. Little change is expected overnight. Nicole is forecast to be a major hurricane when it moves near Bermuda.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 65 miles from the center. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 160 miles.
