NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Department of Public Health has lifted a Swimming Advisory for the North Community Beach in Ocean View.

The advisory was issued on Tuesday and lifted on Wednesday.

According to The Norfolk Department of Public Health samples collected on Monday showed that bacteria levels in the water exceeded the State Water Quality Standards.

Re-sampling of the water showed that bacteria levels have returned to normal levels.

Recreational waters are monitored for bacteria levels during the summer swimming season using indicator organisms such as enterococci.

The bacteria found does not cause illness but scientific studies indicate that their presence is closely correlated to the presence of other disease-causing organisms.
