VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Dominion Virginia Power is expanding a program to Hampton Roads that uses drones to inspect power lines for problems.

For the past year, Dominion has been working with Virginia Beach-based HAZON Solutions and Virginia Tech to test out the use of the drones. So far, the drone has flown 144 miles and inspected more than 1,200 structures.

Dominion says the new technology increases safety and reliability, while reducing costs with less physical climbing and helicopter patrols.
