Man robs Isle of Wight Dollar General store, forces employee to drive him away

SMITHFIELD, Va. – Authorities in Isle of Wight are investigating a robbery and abduction that occurred Friday morning at the Dollar General store at 4787 Old Stage Highway.

Deputies were called to the store at 9:14 a.m. after receiving calls about the robbery and abduction.

Deputies were told a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white shirt covering his face and armed with a gun came into the store and took money out of the register and safe.

The suspect ordered the employee to drive him in the employee’s car. When they were several miles away, the suspect exited the vehicle and the employee returned to the store.

No one was injured during the incident.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
