Birds cause major power outage in Norfolk including Norfolk International Airport

NORFOLK, Va. – Two crows caused a power outage in the Norview section of Norfolk that impacted Norfolk International Airport.

The outage occurred Sunday afternoon just after 4 P.M.

According to Norfolk International Airport, the facility operates off of two main power feeds and both of those feeds were shut off.

This caused the airport to resort to their backup generators, which limited the facility to emergency electrical circuits.

Some flights were delayed due to the outage from Sunday afternoon.

Virginia Dominion Power tell News 3 the crows flew into power lines on Military Highway and caused more than 2,000 people to be without power in the city.

As of Sunday evening, 1,300 customers have their power turned back on, including Norfolk International Airport.

The remaining customers without power were expected to have their electricity restored Sunday night.
