NORFOLK, Va. – Flight attendants on a Delta flight from Norfolk to Atlanta took action Friday morning after smoke was spotted coming from a battery in a section near the back of the plane.

The incident occurred just after the plane took off from Norfolk International Airport on Friday morning on its way to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International

According to Delta, flight attendants saw smoke coming from the rear portion of the aircraft and working quickly to find the source and dissipate the smoke.

Delta says it appears the smoke was coming from a spare battery, not attached to a device.

Delta is working to determine the source and type of the battery and is working with aviation safety officials.

The flight had 143 customers and five crew members and it continued without issue to Atlanta.
