CHESTERFIELD, Va. – Chesterfield Police are investigating after an alleged abduction attempt in a neighborhood.

A 7-year-old girl reported to police that a man traveling alone in a yellow or brown car attempted to grab her, just after 7 p.m. Monday.

An adult male exited the vehicle, walked into the victim’s path and picked her up, according to police. The victim kicked the suspect, who dropped her to the ground and returned to his vehicle.

The victim was not injured.

The child’s mother told CBS 6 News she had shown all her children “stranger safety” videos prior to Monday’s incident.  Those lessons helped her daughter, the mother said, and she hopes more parents speak with their children about how to react if a stranger approaches them.

The suspect was described as an older, tall white male with a thin build. He had messy brown and gray hair and wrinkles, and he was wearing a button-down shirt, according to police.

The suspect vehicle is described as an older model, brown and/or yellow, four-door vehicle with a dent in the driver’s side door.

A detective was in the Stone Harbor neighborhood on Tuesday.

Neighbors reported patrols throughout the night after abduction attempt.

Many said they were watching their quiet street closely since the incident, looking for suspicious activity.  The Stone Harbor Neighborhood Association is considering working on installing a surveillance camera near the neighbor entrance because of the attempted abduction.
