DUCK, N.C. – A 24-year-old man was arrested Thursday in Dare County for several charges related to a recent vehicle theft and an attempted larceny.

On Thursday, a Duck Police officer attempted to stop a moped on an attempted larceny call when the person fled on foot.

Southern Shores Police Department, Kitty Hawk Police Department, Nags Head Police Department and Dare County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist.

The suspect was spotted again a short time later and after a brief foot chase, he was apprehended and identified as 24-year-old Matthew Dingley.

Dingley matched the description of a suspect from a previous stolen vehicle case that ended in Duck on August 29. That suspect was not apprehended and was still at large.

It was determined that the prints found on the stolen vehicle from the Duck case matched Dingley’s fingerprints. He was arrested and taken to the Dare County Detention Center for processing.

Dingley was charged with the following by Kitty Hawk Police Department and Dare County Sheriff’s Office and being held in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond;
Felony Possession Stolen Vehicle, 2 counts Felony Fleeing to Elude, Careless/reckless driving, No operator’s license, Speeding 65/50.

Other charges are expected from Duck Police Department.
