Picture it: you and your best friend are on a road trip through the desert.  OK, it's the Iraqi desert. And in the back of your truck, you're smuggling weapons.

War Dogs, loosely based on a true story, follows two meatheads from Miami. They're childhood friends turned government arms dealers who are in way over their heads. Also in over its head: this movie.

The film, starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller had so much going for it, but it just fell flat. If you're going to fictionalize a real story, that's your license to spice it up and make it sexy. Instead, war dogs just left me wanting more.

That's no fault of the actors, particularly Hill, who does a convincing job as the slimy mastermind behind the get rich quick scheme. But that's where the praise ends.

War Dogs wants to be so many things: an indictment on defense contracting, a feel good bro flick, a comedy adventure, and so on. In the process, ends up being none of them. I give it 3 out of 5 Blaines.
