NORFOLK, Va. – When public school students in the Broad Creek and Southside neighborhoods of Norfolk return to school on September 6, they’ll be walking into two new 21st century learning environments.
Construction just wrapped up on both the Southside STEM Academy at Campostella and Richard H. Bowling Elementary School.
Southside STEM Academy at Campostella and Richard H. Bowling Elementary school are two of five new schools built under the Building the Future initiative.
The Building the Future initiative is a collaboration between the City and Norfolk Public Schools for an unprecedented five new schools for Norfolk children.
A 10-member team made up of city and public school representatives selected S. B. Ballard to design and build the schools as part of a process required by the Public-Private Education Facilities Infrastructure Act (PPEA).
New elementary schools at Larchmont, Ocean View and Camp Allen are currently under construction.
