VIRGINIA – Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was at a steady 3.7 percent in July, Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Friday.

The over-the-year job grown has continued for the 28th consecutive month.

“Twenty-eight months of solid year-over-year employment gains give us fresh evidence that we are advancing toward our goal and building a new Virginia economy that will enable our Commonwealth to weather future economic headwinds,” said Governor McAuliffe. “I am proud of our accomplishments through the transformation of our workforce system and investment in key infrastructure, and today’s announcement gives us renewed confidence that we are creating a lasting legacy for future generations of Virginians.”

The rate has stayed at 3.7 for three months and is significantly below the national rate of 4.9 percent.

Since July 2015, Virginia’s nonfarm payroll employment has increased by 57,200 jobs. The Commonwealth’s over-the-year employment rate was 1.5 percent in July 2016, while employment grew nationally 1.7 percent from last July.

Compared to July 2015, seven of the eleven major industry divisions experienced employment gains.
