Former Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has been named the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.

Browns coach Hue Jackson made the announcement Monday morning.

RGIII signed with the Browns in March after spending four seasons with the Redskins.

He’ll make his first start for the Browns on Friday in the team’s preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers.

“It’s time. Robert has earned the right to be named the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns,” Jackson said. “I’ve been crystal clear on what we expect from Robert. He fully understands the responsibility and I feel he is ready to handle this role.”
