VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – STIHL Inc. hosted its 5th annual Manufacturing Technology Summer Camp (MTSC) from July 27 to July 30.

High school students from all over Virginia had the opportunity to design and build an obstacle avoiding robot using STIHL parts.

The company created the camp to give students hands-on experience in technology-based projects and promote careers in modern manufacturing.

Five teams participated in a manufacturing competition, in which they had to assemble, market and present their finished product to a panel of judges.

The winning team was coached by Mike Camp and Whitney Pendleton. Winners included Tomas Franzese of Kellam High School, Joshua Bailey of Princess Anne High School, Aniya Burnham of Landstown High School, Kori Lea of Tallwood High School, Miles Abernathy of First Colonial High School, Alex Plutchak of Ocean Lakes High School and Claudio Cela of Grassfield High School.

Each member of the winning team received a scholarship of $1,000.
